Chess Rules

The rules of Chess have changed very little since the 1500s, shortly after a Persian form of the game was introduced to Europe by Crusaders returning from the Holy Land. But Chess spread east as well as west, with different versions of the same game evolving in Indochina, China and Japan. We'll learn the rules and play four different versions of Chess, starting with the oldest known game from India in which four players move eight pieces each on our old familiar chessboard. At the end of the course each Scholar will create their own version of Chess. Your version may become the Chess of the future!
